ABOUT THE BIRDS:
In January 2006, Phil Moore and Beth Tacular played their first show as Bowerbirds. They had spent the previous summer living in a squatted abandoned school house in South Carolina, in a swampy forest along the Pee Dee River. Their time in the wilderness inspired them to write the songs that would make up their first e.p., "Danger at Sea," and they continued writing music as they traveled the country for almost a year, living out of their van.
In 2007, moved out to another wild place, this time in North Carolina, where they made their home in a 1961 AirStream trailer. They lived in the tiny home for a couple years with no running water or electricity, save one solar panel, and in between tours worked on a cabin they are building by hand from mostly reclaimed materials. In June 2007 they released their critically acclaimed first full length album, "Hymns for a Dark Horse," and they added multi-instrumentalist Mark Paulson to the band.
Their second full length, "Upper Air," came out in July of 2009, and is a more sonically complex album while retaining the organic and ramshackle roots of their earlier releases. Besides Beth on accordion and piano, and Phil on guitar, Bowerbirds' other members change over time. Currently they are touring with drummer Dan "Yan" Westerlund.

ABOUT THIS SHOP:
Bowerbirds are known in part for their earth consciousness and D.I.Y. mentality, and they source clothing and accessories from sweatshop free manufacturers like American Apparel and Alternative Apparel, and use local artists and printers to create their products, when they aren't making them themselves.
Beth and Phil are designers by trade, and Beth is a visual artist who often contributes original designs to be used on album artwork and tee shirts. Artists Allyson Mellberg Taylor and Jeremy Taylor are also favorites of the Bowerbirds.
We hope you like what you find in our shop. Beth and Phil will use the proceeds from the sales of these items to help finance future tours and to finish building their cabin home in the woods (see image at right).
We print all our items in relatively small runs, as we can afford to make them. If we are ever out of something in your size, and you'd really like to see us carry that item again, please contact us on the contact page, and we will see what we can do.
